KVS Patna Region came into existence in the year 1970. Earlier it was known as Eastern Region which included Guwhati Region, Silchar Region, Calcutta Region & Bhubaneshwar Region. Earlier it was running in the temporary building. After lot of efforts taken by Sh. S Modawal the then Assistant Commissioner of Patna Region shifted to its own building in the year 2000.
The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan consists of 25 Regions and KVS Patna Region covers all Kendriya Vidyalayas of Bihar(45 KV's). Patna Region has 41 schools in First Shift and 04 Schools in Second Shift managed and looked after by the three Assistant Commissioner under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner. The Primary Aim of the Patna Region is to fulfill/achieve targets of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan as per the guidelines provided by the KVS Headquarters and academic excellence in every sphere including all round development of the students.
The Commissioner KVS is the Chief Executive Head of the Sangathan and the Chief Administrator of Kendriya Vidyalayas. At the Headquarters, he is supported by two Additional Commissioners and five Joint Commissioners and other officials.
Each Vidyalaya is managed by a Principal who is assisted by the Vidyalaya Management Committee headed by the chair person and consisting of 13 members . These Vidyalayas belong to three sectors namely , Defence Sector , Civil Sector and Project Sector . Generally , these Vidyalayas cater to the Educational needs of wards of Central Government Employees / Wards of State Govt. Employees and floating population can also seek admission depending upon the availability of vacancies in different classes on priority basis. Kendriya Vidyalaya have become pace setting institutions and are in great demand .
